How Red Light Therapy Works.
Red light therapy, called photobiomodulation in the research literature, bathes the body in specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light. Visible red light works closest to the surface, where it is studied for skin and collagen support. Near-infrared wavelengths, which you cannot see, reach deeper toward muscle and joint tissue. Inside your cells, that light is absorbed by the mitochondria, the structures that produce your energy, and research suggests this nudges them to work more efficiently, supporting circulation, recovery, and the body’s own repair processes.
A session is simple: you lie in a whole-body light bed for about thirty minutes, surrounded by light from above and below. No UV, no needles, no downtime.
What we call red light therapy is really photobiomodulation, or PBM, which is the accurate term for the whole category. It is a mouthful, so red light therapy is what most people say and what we call it too. Our bed is more than red light, though.
The ARRC LED system runs six wavelengths across three colors in the same session: green at 528 nm, red at 633 and 660 nm, and near infrared at 810, 850 and 940 nm. Each reaches a different depth, so one session works at the surface, in between, and deeper toward muscle and joint tissue rather than at a single layer. ARRC shapes each program with its own pulsing and frequency coding, which is how a session can be aimed at different tissue instead of running one setting for everyone.
ILLUMINATED BY ARRC LED →
Our whole-body light bed is designed and built in the USA by ARRC LED, whose systems are used by NFL franchises, including the Minnesota Vikings, and U.S. military facilities, and recorded the highest measured light output among full-body beds tested in an independent 2024 analysis by researchers from The Geneva Foundation and The Ohio State University.

Your First Red Light Therapy Session
A light therapy session at Aervita is intentionally easy: thirty minutes of enclosed, whole-body light while you rest. Here is the full arc, from first visit to what happens after.
Initial Health Assessment
Everyone starts with an Initial Health Assessment: a 40-minute visit with one of our doctors, $84. We go through your history and goals, screen for anything that needs a closer look — including medications that increase light sensitivity — and map out whether light therapy, or a combination of therapies, fits your plan.
Settle In
You can wear as much or as little as you are comfortable with — the more skin the light reaches, the more it can do. We provide eye protection, get you settled into the bed, and start the program your practitioner has chosen for your goals.
The Session
Sessions run about thirty minutes. Most people describe a gentle warmth and treat it as enforced rest — eyes covered, phone away. The bed surrounds you with red and near-infrared light from above and below, so both sides of the body are covered in a single session.
After Your Session
There is no downtime — you can head straight back to work or a workout. Drink water, and expect benefits to build with consistency rather than arrive all at once: most plans run two to three sessions per week for several weeks, then taper to maintenance.
What Patients Say About Red Light Therapy
Since my vaccine injury I have had a lot of pain and Western Medicine doctors don't know what to do with me. A friend recommended trying red light therapy for pain and inflammation. I tried it at Aervita and I would definitely recommend it. It was clean and the I felt some feeling coming back in my foot that has neuropathy. I will be back for sure.

I'm a long-COVID patient that's been working with Dr. Natalie for a while. Her care, attention and expertise have been life-changing for me. I had issues with so many body systems including GI, POTS, malnourishment, brain fog, hormones, extreme fatigue, etc. She listens intently to even the smallest symptoms and connects the dots on everything. She knows what issues to tackle first and her knowledge of body systems is profound. I fully trust her care and have made amazing steps to recovery and continue to do so.
She recently recommended the red-light bed and after two sessions I had one of the best days of uplifted mood, energy and mental clarity since getting COVID in November of 2022. I fully trust and rely on Dr. Natalie's expertise and compassion to continue with my health journey.

Red Light Therapy in Edina: Frequently Asked Questions
Is red light therapy the same as photobiomodulation?
Yes. Photobiomodulation, or PBM, is the accurate term for the whole category of light therapy. It is a mouthful, so most people say red light therapy and so do we. Worth knowing that our ARRC LED bed is more than red light: it runs six wavelengths in one session, green at 528 nm, red at 633 and 660 nm, and near infrared at 810, 850 and 940 nm, so a single session reaches several tissue depths at once.
What does a session feel like?
Warm, bright behind your eye protection, and surprisingly relaxing. There is no pressure, no noise to speak of, and nothing touching you but light. Most people settle in quickly — thirty minutes tends to go faster than expected.
Is it like a tanning bed?
No. Tanning beds use ultraviolet light, which damages skin. red light therapy uses red and near-infrared wavelengths with no UV at all — it does not tan or burn, and eye protection is provided for comfort and safety.
How many sessions before I notice anything?
It varies with the goal. Some people notice easier sleep or less soreness within the first week or two; skin and longer-term recovery goals take more time. Most plans run two to three sessions per week for four to five weeks, and we track progress against the goal we set at your assessment.
Who should be cautious with light therapy?
Anyone taking photosensitizing medications, anyone pregnant, and anyone in active cancer treatment should talk with their provider first — this is exactly what your Initial Health Assessment screens for. Light therapy is supportive care and never a substitute for medical treatment you are already receiving.
Do I need the Initial Health Assessment first?
Yes. Every new patient starts with the $84 Initial Health Assessment — a 40-minute visit where we review your history, screen for anything that needs attention, and decide together whether light therapy fits your plan. It keeps your care practitioner-guided from day one.
What should I wear?
Whatever you are comfortable with — the more skin the light reaches, the more it can do, so most people undress to their comfort level in the private room. Eye protection is provided and the bed is sanitized between every session.
Can I combine light therapy with HBOT or PEMF?
Yes — they are commonly paired. Light therapy and PEMF target cellular energy in complementary ways, and hyperbaric oxygen adds the raw material — oxygen — that recovering tissue uses. Our Rejuvenate membership even shares its weekly sessions across LED and PEMF.
Curious about the research behind light therapy? Independent overviews are a good place to start — the National Library of Medicine indexes thousands of studies on photobiomodulation, spanning skin, muscle recovery, joint discomfort, and more. Quality varies, and we would rather show you honest evidence than overpromise — bring your questions to your assessment and we will walk through what applies to you.
One practical note: light therapy rewards consistency more than intensity. The dose that helps is the one you repeat — which is why our packages are built around two to three sessions per week rather than marathon single visits.
And if you are still on the fence, start small. Book the $84 Initial Health Assessment, ask every question on this page in person, and see the bed for yourself before you commit to a package.
Questions we did not cover here? Bring them to your assessment or send them through our contact page — a real person reads every message.
Clinic-Grade Red Light vs. At-Home Panels
The at-home market is crowded — panels, masks, and belts at every price point. The honest difference is dose and coverage. A handheld panel treats one patch of skin from a distance; a clinic bed surrounds the entire body at close range, with both red and near-infrared wavelengths, at an intensity that has been independently measured rather than just advertised. That is why a clinic session takes thirty minutes and covers everything, while a panel routine covers one area at a time.
If a small panel gets you started at home, we think that is great. The clinic bed is here when you want the whole-body, practitioner-guided version — and our team can help you make sense of what you already own.
How We Track Whether Red Light Therapy Is Working
Every light therapy plan at Aervita has a stated goal — better sleep, less post-workout soreness, calmer skin, a faster rebound from a procedure. We write it down at your assessment, pick a realistic timeframe, and check in against it as sessions accumulate. If the needle is not moving, we say so and adjust the plan. That honesty is the point of practitioner-guided care: the bed is the tool, not the plan itself.
A scheduling tip from our front desk: light therapy slots pair naturally with whatever else brings you to the clinic. Patients often book a session right before or after an adjustment or a hyperbaric dive, the online calendar shows availability in real time, and thirty minutes fits neatly into a lunch break.
